One Thing That I Spend (Waste) Too Much Money On

Magazines. I can't help it. I love them. It's like an addiction. I currently have subscriptions to 4 magazines. Two were gift subscriptions though. And even though I get all these magazines, I cannot resist buying one at the store. My mother gets Country Living (one of the magazines she subscribes to that is. maybe that's where I inherited this problem from!). Well, I was not aware of this magazine until about a month ago so I have now added it to my collection. So here is what I read:

Subscriptions:
Wiregrass Living (gift)
Real Simple (gift)
Health
Hallmark

What I will (impulse) buy:
Self
Martha Stewart Living
Country Living
Southern Living
Shape

That's all I can think of off the top of my head, but I am sure there are others. I think it would probably make me sick to know how much money I have spent over the years on magazines.

I guess that's all I have to say. I realize this was quite a random and not very interesting post. But I just thought I would share my addiction with you all.

Tagged

I have read several "tagged" blogs and now I have been. Maybe I can think of something interesting to say. Here goes:

What were you doing 10 years ago?
Ten years ago I was still 15, finishing up the 10th grade, and probably getting ready or just finished with majorette tryouts.

5 things on my to do list today
1. Write this blog
2. Have dinner at Olive Garden (I am so excited!)
3. Return something to Kohls (I am pretty sure Denise said this too)
4. Wash clothes
5. Go to bed?

5 Snacks I enjoy
1. potato chips
2. string cheese
3. sometimes a cookie or brownie
4. crackers
5. anything salty; i'm not so much of a sweets girl

5 Things I would do if I was a billionaire
1. Build my dream home on at least 10 acres in the middle of Dothan! That way I can still feel like I live in the country (b/c I wouldn't have neighbors) but still be close to everything I need.
2. Pay off all debts including mine and Jeremy's families. B/c let's face it, most everybody has a little (or a lot) or debt.
3. Buy a beach house. But then I would want to live there instead of in my dream home in the middle of Dothan
4. Not work!
5. Travel a lot more
Wow, most of that was pretty materialistic! Didn't really mean for it to be that way.

5 Bad habits
1. I'm a huge procrastinator.
2. I'm a bit of a pack rat which means I am a pretty cluttered person.
3. I worry and over-analyze and obsess over things which I have no control over.
4. Being too materialistic at times; note previous post. I am trying to work on this though!
5. I am terrible at returning phone calls. Sorry you guys!

5 Places I've lived
1. Slocomb, AL
2. Tuscaloosa, AL
3. Dothan, AL
That's it. I guess that is good b/c I don't like to move! But I did live in two different apartments in T-Town. Does that count?

5 Jobs I've had
1. bad check/debt collector for Chek-Pro. That was quite fun. I got to have a fake name and listen to crazy excuses as to why people bounced checks.
2. Dothan Specialty Clinic- I filed insurance claims. Kinda boring, but it paid well and worked around my college schedule
3. I had several jobs through the UA- tutor, office assistant at the Speech and Hearing Center and graduate assistant
4. SLP for Slocomb Elementary
5. I hope to have a 5th one soon!

5 of my Favorite Things (I am going to make this list tangible items; that's a nicer way for me to say materialistic!)
1. Coffee
2. Vera Bradley
3. Burt's Bees
4. Rainbow and Yellowbox flip-flops; So comfortable!
5. Books; love to buy them, love to read them.

Autism Filled Weekend

For those of you who actually read my blog I know you are probably thinking, really, autism again? But it's something I'm very interested in and it's something I have a heart for. And unfortunately, it's something we should all be concerned with.

On Friday I attended a seminar on autism at SAMC. The speaker was Dr. Caroline Gomez. She previously worked on Auburn's main campus for their autism clinic and has now started the Autism Hope Center in Columbus, GA. She was a fantastic speaker and very knowledgeable. In my first blog about autism I shared with you all that the incidence is 1 in 150. Well Dr. Gomez shared an even scarier statistic for the state of Alabama; 1 in 135. What is going on here? I have several theories about the causes and origins which I will not get into. But do yourself a favor and at least learn the warning signs! Anyway, I really enjoyed learning from Dr. Gomez and meeting some other SLPs. Sadly though, I did not win one of the door prizes. :)

On Saturday I participated in the Walk for Autism at Eastgate Park. (side note, if you've never been to Eastgate you should go. it is beautiful out there!) It was a fun morning and a nice day to support the cause! I walked with some of my co-workers; 3 of them of have children with autism.

Well this is all I have to say for now at least concerning autism. If you didn't read my other autism blog please do and click on the video link and watch it as well. And watch this video too!
(one of these days I'll figure out how to post a video!)

A Nice Day...in spite of the weather

It is so nice to be on Spring Break finally. I have really enjoyed my day. I slept late and that is always a good thing. I got to have lunch with a good friend and some sweet ladies from my church. Then I went to Target and bought some goodies for my mom and her friend; they are taking a road trip to North Carolina for my mom's birthday to visit their other friend. I also got to plunder in the Highlands Antique Mall. I could spend hours in there, or any antique store for that matter. I loved being able to take my time and knowing that supper was already cooking in the crock pot.

As for the rest of the week, I plan to keep sleeping late and do a few projects. Even though I would prefer to be totally lazy!

The Impact of Coke

My preacher shared this in his sermon Sunday morning. I thought it was definitely worth posting. So here's a little food for thought:

90% of the world's population has heard of Coke
74% have seen a Coke.
51% have tasted Coke.
10% of the world's population has never heard of the gospel.

Please share you thoughts and comments on this.

Selfish

As much as I hate to admit it, I can be a little selfish at times. I really don't mean to be and sometimes I don't even realize I'm being that way. Until my husband (and I hate when he's right) so "lovingly" points it out to me.

And then there are times when I know I'm being selfish but don't seem to care. This whole "I don't want to do that/I shouldn't have to do that" attitude comes over me and I don't know how to make it go away! I am writing all this by the way, because I have had a couple of what some would consider selfish moments this past week.

On the whole, I consider myself to be a pretty giving, caring person. But every now and then the selfishness creeps out and takes hold of me. Is anybody with me on this one? If you can relate, I would love to know about it. Some suggestions/thoughts on how to tame this monster would be fantastic!

What I Was Going To Do Today

Well, my plans got canceled today due to the rain. Which is ok, because I stayed at home and was quite lazy.

Mama and I were supposed to have gone to the Pilgrimage in Eufaula. We went last year and it was so much fun. There is a lot that goes on with the Pilgrimage but our favorite parts are the house tours and the antique show. We love "old stuff" so it is just right up our alley. The homes in Eufaula are beautiful and some people allow theirs to be toured for the Pilgrimage. I loved walking through them last year and wondering who used to live there, what kind of people they were, and did they throw fabulous dances and grand dinner parties. The same goes for antiques. I always wonder who used to own the item and how was it displayed in their house and so on and so on. Mama and I love to go antiquing (if that's even a word). We aren't experts yet; that is, we don't know originals from replicas on most things. We mostly just look, but mama has recently starting buying some pieces. I am super excited for her and love what she's done with them! Our favorite antique items are furniture and dishes. I have some Blue Ridge Pottery pieces but haven't bought anything new in several years. Mainly because I don't have anywhere to display them right now.

There is a lady from Slocomb that I work with and she likes antiques as well. For several years she would find pieces she liked and put them in storage. Well, she built a house a couple of years ago and it is like she designed her house around those pieces. I would love to be able to do that, but unfortunately I'm not very crafty or creative. I need all the help I can get! In fact, I just bought the latest issue of Martha Stewart Living that I think I'll go and read.
